Hitting the Jackpot…

Would be amazing! The burden of debt would be gone for both myself and my family. No more student loan and car payments to worry about. I would buy a beautiful home to live in for myself and for my family, travel to exotic places and enjoy not being burdened with penny pinching and paycheck to paycheck living. After hitting the jackpot, however I wouldn’t stop working but start my own company instead. I live to work hard, but doing something I love is most important, and when you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.

An Elusive Goal…

… would be understanding advanced mathematics. I have never been particularly fond of math, probably because when I see it or hear it being explained I see a jumble of numbers and ideas floating in space. When I was a child, once we moved past simple equations it was all down hill. At the time, no one was diagnosing children with dyscalculia; dyslexia was just emerging. Dyscalculia, is basically the inability to perform mathematical problems, the list of symptoms is long, however there are other markers as well, for instance mixing up left and right. It seems as I have gotten older, and passed through the system, a professor of mine took notice and realized I was on target with some things, but ask me to calculate anything or remember the order of formula and I was a black hole of despair.

One Place I Always Wanted to Visit…

… is Buenos Aries, Argentina. My father has been going there on business for many years, however I have never been able to accompany him. Our schedules between work and school have yet to collide. We have family friends down there as well, who often come up to visit. However it would be wonderful to see their hometown as well. I hear tales of Churrascaria and ice cream for dinner and beautiful leather markets as well. I have heard that you can actually have ice cream delivered as simply as we order a pizza here. More importantly the currency exchange rate is actually worth something for us there!

A Memorable Teacher…

…would be Mr. Banton, my 11th and 12th grade IBH English teacher, (International Baccalaureate Higher Level English). He was animated, personable, sarcastic and found ways to help his students look at literature in new and obscure ways. Mr. Banton is one of the reasons I love writing. We would go on writing weekends at Bard College to spend two full days in writing workshops with our English teachers. Only a small group of students were able to go and it was such a liberating experience living in the vacant dorms, the silence of the forest around us and the clean crisp snow on the ground. I can still hear my footsteps crunching through the snow as we walked between the dormitory and the classrooms. Mr. Banton never judged, he critiqued, he made us love literature and the written word.

A Book I Would Love to Write…

…would be a documentary of my travels through Italy – part guide, part cookbook that incorporates techniques, stories, interviews and recipes from the heart and soul of Italy’s regions. The book would bring to life the magic of the little nooks and crannies, those rare finds when traveling on foot and finding the most adorable restaurant or hole-in-the-wall bakery with the finest biscotti. In addition, it would be experiencing cooking with the locals and documenting the tips and tricks of Italian homes and secrets passed down from generation to generation. Let’s not forget traveling through the vineyards of Tuscany during Harvest and experiencing the harvest festival of Chianti.

If I were a character from a movie/TV show I would be Scarlett O’Hara because…

I would love to wear all those amazing dresses! Scarlett O’Hara lived through the good times and the bad, all the while believing in true love and pursuit of happiness despite the most dismal of situations. Her strong willed and feisty nature are admirable, as is her passion for family and her roots. She shows a human side that is vulnerable to loves pitfalls and being involved with a man who doesn’t suit her, how often in life have we made those same mistakes, only to find true love when you least expect it (ie. Rhett Butler). Scarlett O’Hara was ahead of her time, becoming a savvy and shrewd business woman and a loving a and doting mother. Even as her fears of her future came to surface, she fought through feeling sorry for herself and took it as an opportunity to be stronger. For these reasons and many more I can relate to her character, admire her strong willed nature and still be a little jealous of those gorgeous gowns.

My passions…

… run deep to my soul. I say this because I am an old soul and I believe passions can be innate and acquired. My passion for family, loyalty and love are unparalleled, perhaps only to my passion for all things concerning the well being of humanity. Over the course of my time lifetime I have acquired a passion for cooking, baking, art, writing, reading and creativity. When immersed in my passions I feel the world lifted, as if walking on air and a million miles away from the troubles of everyday life. When advocating for humanity, my passion drives me to push forward, persevere and fight for the cause that will help those in need.
